Arya Family Restaurant had been serving authentic home-style food in Bhopal for over 12 years. They had a loyal base of regular customers but were heavily dependent on Zomato and Swiggy for online orders - paying 25–30% commission on every order placed through those platforms. The owner, Mr. Ramesh Arya, approached me with a clear goal: he wanted customers to be able to order directly from the restaurant's own website, where he would keep 100% of the order value. He also wanted a professional online presence that reflected the quality of food his family had been making for decades. The secondary challenge was that Mr. Arya was not tech-savvy. Any solution had to be simple enough for his staff to manage without my involvement for day-to-day operations.
We built a complete restaurant website with an integrated online ordering system. Customers can browse the full menu organised by category, add items to a cart, choose between delivery and pickup, and pay online via Razorpay - all without leaving the restaurant's own website. For the restaurant staff, we built a simple order management panel where incoming orders appear in real-time with a notification sound. Staff can mark orders as confirmed, in-preparation, or ready. No complicated training was needed - the interface was designed for someone who primarily uses a smartphone.
The menu system allows the restaurant to mark items as available or unavailable on a given day - useful for when a dish runs out. The system automatically hides unavailable items from the customer-facing menu. A daily special feature lets them highlight one dish with a prominent banner at the top of the menu page. For payments, we integrated Razorpay with UPI, cards, and net banking. The payment confirmation triggers an automatic WhatsApp message to the customer with their order details and estimated time - this single feature significantly reduced 'where is my order?' calls to the restaurant.
Within the first three months of launch, the restaurant processed 847 orders directly through the website. Monthly order volume tripled compared to the same period the previous year. More importantly, the restaurant retained the full order value on every direct order instead of paying platform commissions. Mr. Arya estimates the website paid for itself within the first six weeks purely from commission savings. The restaurant now actively directs customers to their website for repeat orders by including the URL on packaging and receipts.
